Description of game:
One of my all-time favorites! Restored this one from the original parts. Was originally a red Radarscope cabinet, which were all converted to Donkey Kongs at the factory since the game was a bust. I always like the “Donkey Kong Blue” so I painted it that color. Lately it has been more desireable to have them stay the original Red color. Oh well! Overall, has anyone else ever noticed how BAD Nintendo matches up their color combinations? The DK artwork looks like it would better fit the Red or Orange cabinets. The DK Jr. artwork would look better with this blue cabinet (see the marquee in the second photo on the left).
Different games that this cabinet plays:
I currently have a Donkey Kong PCB and a Donkey Kong Jr. PCB installed in the cabinet. I could also put my Donkey Kong 3 PCB in the cabinet (if it was working). I would to restore a DK Jr. so it will have its own home, but I need and empty cabinet. If you have one, please let me know.
How I got it:
This cab was given to be by Ron “Skygodd” Nagel. He was scrapping a couple Nintendo cabs and I couldn’t beat the price (free). Scott Elliott picked it up for me from Ron at an Indy auction, and I’ve slowly picked up parts for it over about a year. It was a red Radarscop cab. I have boards for Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr, and Donkey Kong 3. I have the monitor, PCB’s, Marquee, CPO, monitor bezel, control panel, wiring harness, and power supply. Also have some instruction cards. Picked up a VERY nice set of Donkey Kong sideart as well, from Arcade Renovations.
Recent repairs:
Almost complete with the restoration, but have a few details left. Check out my Donkey Kong Restoration page for what I had to do to get this far. Also finally mounted the monitor in a more proper manner. Still should make a wooden monitor surround, but it fits great and is very secure in the correct position the way I have it now. Got the guts to install the side art finally. Went well. I decided NOT to use the windex trick since I have a friend that works with adhesives that did not recommend doing it. Supposedly would break down the adhesive over time. I just took my time and rolled it out with a wallpaper seam roller I had in the basement. Also printed some instruction and insert coin stickers for the cabinet. My wife scrapbooks for a hobby and has a great permanent sticker maker.
What it still needs:
Need new coin mechs to really make it look nice. Also would love a new CPO, but not really a necessity.
Final Thoughts:
One of my favorites. Love having it in my arcade!
Personal High Scores:
Donkey Kong – 115,100 (Finally beat my 108,200 that I tied twice and held for 3 ½ years)
Donkey Kong Jr. – 64,800

Hi. How did you wire up the two PCBs? Did you use an A/B switch or something like that?
Thanks
I actually just power off the machine and move the wiring harness between the two of them. It’s not too hard to do from the coin door.
